RELIGIOUS PLURALISM: FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF ISLAMIC WORLDVIEW.
Introduction.
Many religions do share some common beliefs and moral values. However,
fundamental and irreconcilable differences divide them on many crucial issues,
including the nature of God, the source and focus of revelation, the nature of
salvation, and the destiny of humankind. The variety of religions in this world makes
people, particularly the intellectual academics, eager to identify each religion in term
of faith and philosophy.
Religious pluralism, like other „ism‟, is propounded by its advocates and so-called
the theologians. Ardent proponents of religious pluralist theology include renowned
scholars amongst the like of William E. Hocking, Arnold Toynbee, Wilfred Carnwell
Smith, John Harwood Hick and Seyyed Hossein Nasr. However, Hick and Nasr is undoubtedly
the current iconic thinkers of the pluralist theology. Due to the complex array of
religious pluralism perspectives nowadays, the prominent scholars like Tariq
Ramadan try to approach and respond to this situation positively.
Basically, this article attempts to analyse the religious pluralism from the perspective
of Islamic worldview.
The article is divided into three sections; Firstly, pluralism-inclusivism-
exclusivism; this section covers on the definition of each theology in
order to understanding the religious pluralism. Secondly, worldview on religious
pluralism; the section attends to discuss on the development and formation of the
term. Thirdly, analysis of Islamic worldview on religious pluralism; this section
